ID Tags and Audacity

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

I often get asked about whether I use the tags within the audacity program. The answer is no. Of course you need the lame encoder, but I don’t use the tagging as it doesn’t allow you to add images and further information.

Instead I use the MP3 Tag tool which I find to be great in adding information to your file. If you need help in understanding the idea of tags or RSS feeds there is a great tutorial by Franklin McMahon which takes you through all the steps. The tutorial is in 3 stages - creating the mp3 file, the RSS feed and the submission.

Interacting with Podcasting Listeners

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

I am always looking for ways of interacting with readers to the blog and listeners to the podcast. I have come across a new little widget that I am going to try out - meebo

It is a widget that you can embed on your blog and as it says on the website of Meebo

meebo me

meebo me is an embeddable IM window you can drop onto any personal webpage – it lets you chat with site visitors in real time from meebo.com. You’ll be chatting with people on your site in no time!

Visit meebome.com to build a customized meebo me widget.”

Building a community and finding innovative ways for people to contact you is great for building your audience. Many people are fearful of sending audio messages, this allows people a quick simple way of contacting you.

Podcasts that you can learn from

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Every now and again I highlight podcasts that I listen to that are not necessarily in my subject area but they inspire me in some way. Here are another 5 that I listen to and what I learn from them. Today I will highlight podcasts on podcasting and how podcasting can help your business

Todd Cochrane and Geek News Central. Todd Cochrane has firstly the best podcasting laugh in the business! This show is fantastic at keeping up to date with all the technology news.

John Jantsch produces Duct Tape Marketing - brilliant insight into how you can market your business or podcast without a million pound budget

Paul Colligan produces Profitable Podcasting. Paul interviews people that have started podcasting and who have managed to make money through the venture.

If you are looking at how you can use podcasting to increase your personal brand, what technology you should be aware of or how to make money podcasting then these podcasts will really help you.

If anyone has a great show that they want me to listen to then let me know - always looking for inspiration and great content.

Audacity Still Wins

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Yesterday, I sad that I was trying Wavepad and I did, but somehow although I could see the huge benefits and the increase functionality I could not seem to take to it. Podcasting for me has to be simple. I don’t know whether it is because I am so used to audacity but wavepad just wasn’t as intuitive for me.

Audacity as podcasting recording tool is so straight forward, you literally press and record. Also when you import you can see both tracks and edit them so easily or at least split the track which makes it easy.

So I think I will stick with Audacity for now and maybe try out the beta version 1.3.2 which has the following improvements:
Beta version 1.3.2

Usability improvements
New selection bar
New features for label tracks
Improved toolbar docking flexibility
Menu renaming and reorganization
Selection, ruler, and playback control improvements
Major improvements to some built-in effects
New Repair effect
Improved Equalization effect
Many fixes and minor improvements to other effects
Improved accessibility for the visually impaired
Improvements for screen readers, accessibility of tracks, and hot keys
Timer recording
Auto-save and automatic crash recovery
New features and bug fixes for Nyquist
Restructured Preferences dialog
Improved batch processing
File format export improvements
Intel Mac support
Many bug fixes and stability improvements

Anyone coming to podcasting new, i would still recommend it as a great introduction to audio recording

WavePad vs Audacity

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

I have always been an Audacity user and love the simplicity of it. Today, however I was speaking to Penny Haynes and asking her about the audio quality of some of my files. She suggested that I tried WavePad which is also free. Also at this link there are some great tutorials to help you get started. So I am going to try it and report back…has anyone got any views on WavePad vs Audacity?

Podcasting as a Memorial

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

I came across this post at Widows Quest which just illustrates the power of podcasting. It can not only bring new content to the world but it can also be a way of building a memorial or recording memories.
