Fight the Podcasting Complacency

by

I fear that because we are used to the media that we forget that the media is still new to many people. If you have been podcasting for a while then you can so easily forget what it was like when you saw the word podcast for the first time and wondered what it was, how you subscribed and how much it cost…..The way that we will grow podcasting is keeping those feelings at the top of our mind, to keep that naivety that we had at the beginning. Here are some questions to ask yourself

1) Would you have known how to subscribe to your podcast when you were a podcast “virgin”?
2) Do you offer the ability to play it from your site for people without MP3 players?
3) Do you explain that it is free?
4) Do you explain that a podcast is an audio file…a file that you can listen to?
5) Are you keeping the content fresh or do you find yourself repeating content of others?
6) Do you still get excited about recording or has it become routine?
7) Do you remember why you started the podcast, do you keep asking whether it is fulfilling your personal goals?

I am passionate about podcasting, I subscribe to a few new shows each week to keep listening to new presenters, to new areas, to new inspiration…..have I been complacent, I believe I have at times but I have notes in my diary to keep asking myself those tough questions each month so that I catch that complacency quickly.
